October 2009: Annual Day of the Dead Celebration, Being Selected for the Ulsan International Onggi Competition in South Korea

by Irma Vega Bijou on January 18, 2012

Finally, summer’s heat has passed and the splendor of autumn is here! As I started to prepare for my annual Day of the Dead presentations in late September, I received news that three of my ceramic pieces were selected for the 2009 Ulsan International Onggi Competition. The ceramic exhibit will be from October 14 to November 7 at ONGGI Culture Center, Ulsan City, South Korea.

Meanwhile, here in Santa Barbara, I am busy preparing for annual Day of the Dead festivities and presentations. I’ll be presenting an altar and reading stories to the Fifth Grade group at the Santa Barbara Notre Dame School, and I will also exhibit an altar as a guest artist at the Santa Barbara City College’s Luria Library from October 25th through the 30th. This year marks the 20th anniversary of SBCC’s “Dias de los Muertos” event at the college, which is organized annually by the school’s Foreign Language Department. A reception will be held on October 30th.

And, as always, I will be displaying an altar in my own home on November 1st and 2nd.
